Vollyx is a two-tier rating system built on Glicko-1. Tier 1 rates national leagues using international club matches only. Tier 2 rates clubs: each season starts from a league bonus plus a historical component, and every match then adjusts the rating.
Each season starts from the previous final rating × 0.5 plus the rating two seasons ago × 0.25. Seasons older than that are not counted.
After every match, Glicko-1 compares the result with the expected one. Beating a stronger team gains more, an expected loss to a stronger team costs little.
A league's rating comes only from matches between clubs of different leagues in international tournaments. Matches between clubs of the same league cancel out.
Each club has a rating deviation (RD) showing how certain its rating is. RD is high for clubs that missed recent seasons and shrinks with every match played.
